Approach
The project comprises a two-storey building with a large basement for storage, built on the site of the old Brierley Crystal building on Tipton Road, next to the Black Country Living Museum.
The new facility is used to securely archive council documents and records.
Construction
The building was designed to provide a high level of security to protect the valuable records and books contained there.
The building has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating
Contract Period: 70 weeks
Finished Build
The new building includes education and conference facilities, solar panels, temperature and humidity controls for records, a new high-tech conservation facility, IT and public Wi-Fi facilities, a rare books library and research area, additional storage and car parking as well as improved public access to widen community participation.
