Ward Refurbishment

Client: Ashgate Hospicecare
Location: Chesterfield
Value: £1,000,000

Approach

Full remodelling and refurbishment of the Hospice’s existing three bedded bays, transforming them into nine individual, beautiful, modern and private bedrooms which allows Ashgate Hospice to care for more people and families whilst providing much-needed privacy. The individual rooms host a modern and airy feel with excess light intake to provide a positive environment. The repurposed space includes WC and Shower facilities and a nurse station which are shared between three rooms. Turning the bays into single bedrooms now gives patients a spacious, private and dignified environment to receive end-of-life care.

Approach

Construction

The project was undertaken within the confines of a fully operational hospice and in close proximity to patients and their loved ones therefore extra care was taken when working within the sensitive areas. A bespoke Logistics Plan was implemented including a secure heras fenceline segregating the existing hospice from the construction works, timed deliveries through our web-base delivery system to ensure material deliveries did not affect the day to day operations of the Hospice and regular liaison with the Hospice staff to understand any access requirements that may differ on a day-to-day basis due to the nature of the organisation.

Construction

Finished Build

Daily liaison and regular meetings were held to ensure their operational requirements were being met and to ensure that the Hospice could function normally during the works.
Graham Richardson, Director of Retails and Estates for Ashgate Hospice said: G F Tomlinson developed a very good relationship with the Client in carrying out the works, whilst sections of the Hospice still function as normally as possible. This was really appreciated by the Client, with weekly meetings anticipating forthcoming events and how best to minimise their impact on the Hospice’s workings. They performed extremely well, completing the project both on programme and within the original Client’s budget”
