Student Accommodation, Sheffield
Approach
Study Inn Developments approached G F Tomlinson with a new concept of Student Accommodation, based on a boutique hotel model, converting existing buildings into state-of-the-art accommodation.
This scheme was the first and was to convert the upper floors of an existing city centre department store into student living.
Construction
The works involved extensive remodeling to the 2nd and 4th floors of the building to convert existing office space into 126 Studio rooms, incorporating private en-suite shower rooms and kitchen facilities, and study desk to form Student Accommodation. One of the key challenges was to ensure that the foul water was able to drain out from each department. G F Tomlinson came up with a vacuum system that stored the foul water in a large tank on the roof for easy removal when required.
Contract Period: 18 weeks
Finished Build
The new accommodation combines the security, quality and comfort of a Hotel with the fun and vibrancy of student halls of residency.
The works included the provision of a gym, table-tennis room, TV/meeting space, laundry room and reception area.
