This £2.3m Hood Park leisure centre extension and refurbishment scheme involved the demolition of the existing sports centre and changing areas, and an extension to provide new facilities including two new swimming pools, changing areas, reception/offices, gym and activity rooms. External cladding included cedar board panels.
The construction, carried out by Midlands construction contractor GF Tomlinson Building, was made more difficult due to the necessity to work around existing plant and equipment, keeping it live until it was relocated. The Leisure Centre remained open to the public for the duration of the construction contract and therefore required the Site Management team to possess good interpersonal and organisational skills to ensure all parties were kept fully informed and all operations were smoothly implemented.
The swimming pool construction required a high degree of management control to ensure that the concreting process was undertaken correctly. Both swimming pools passed the watertight test first time, outlining our expertise in this field.
