15/01/2008 - the doors open at dukeries young peoples centre

G F Tomlinson Building Limited officially handed over the Young People’s Centre at the Dukeries Community College, Ollerton focusing exclusively on the needs and aspirations of Dukeries young residents.

A steering group was established to engage the young people in the decision making process for the centre, headed by Debbie Swanwick, Youth Worker for Ollerton and Edwinstowe. Debbie mentioned “This is a very exciting centre for Ollerton, it is in a good location and by involving the young people throughout the scheme we have provided them with exactly what they asked for an informal drop in centre where they can get involved in activities, seek advice or just hang out with their friends”.

The doors will be open from early February 2008 with five nights already scheduled including a Duke of Edinburgh Awards evening, film club and an after school drop in.

As part of the Nottinghamshire County Council’s Partnering Framework, Dukeries Young People’s Centre is one of six new build schemes which will improve the facilities available to young people. The aim of the centre is to improve the provision of positive activities in terms of more ‘places to go and things to do’ for young people in the locality.

Nick Banks, Construction Director for G F Tomlinson commented “We are delighted to have been involved in this prestigious project which will provide first class, accessible facilities to local young persons. The consultation process that has taken place for this Youth Centre has resulted in facilities that match the requirements of the persons using them. This should ensure that it is both well used and maintained for many years to come.

This is the first of five Youth Centre’s that Tomlinson’s will be constructing on the Nottinghamshire Construction Framework, and we look forward to providing these excellent facilities in other locations in Nottinghamshire”.
