G F Tomlinson Building Ltd started work on the new Young People’s Centre in Hawtonville on Friday 18th January 2008 and Nottinghamshire County Council's Councillor Chris Baron, was more than happy to come along and dig out the first piece of turf to commemorate the event before the heavy machinery moved in.¬
The project is part of the Nottinghamshire Construction Framework, forming part of the Council’s long term strategy to upgrade the quality and quantity of services for young people, this being one of five new young people centres being constructed across the county over the next two years by G F Tomlinson.
Nottinghamshire County Council's Councillor Chris Baron, Cabinet Member for Finance and Property said “The new youth centre is testimony to the County Council's dedication to provide the highest quality services to the young people of Nottinghamshire. It is destined to become an important part of the Hawtonville community."
The new centre is to be built on an existing site off Windsor Road in Hawtonville at an estimated cost of £600,000. It will include many modern and environmentally friendly features, such as:
- High insulation in the roof, walls and floors to reduce heat loss.
- A heating system powered by a wood pellet biomass boiler which is efficient, economical and sustainable
- Cycle racks to encourage healthy exercise.
- An acoustic floating ceiling developed by an acoustic specialist
Nick Banks, Framework Manager for Tomlinson’s said “We are delighted to have been entrusted to undertake a series of Youth Centres across the county as part of our involvement on the Strategic Partnering Framework with Nottinghamshire County Council. Working in a collaborative long term arrangement like this enables us to take lessons learnt from one project to improve the next, keeping the same teams together, something that could never be achieved via the traditional tendering route. The end result will be excellent facilities for young people and value for money for the client”.
The new facility is due to be completed in August 2008.
