GF Tomlinson Group Limited are Derby’s oldest established construction company dating back to 1892 and are still located at the City Road Offices from where we were first established some 114 years ago.
Since that time the Company has been providing the ‘Complete Construction Service’ throughout the Midlands Region which encompasses all forms of building and civil engineering activities.
Despite this historical past, we are not looking back but rather very much into the future as we continue to provide both Public and Private Sector Clients with innovative construction solutions and establish ourselves as a modern forward thinking organisation.
With offices in Derby, Birmingham and Worcester the company is forecasting a £100m turnover in 2006 derived from work across a full range of sectors including Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Retail, Industrial, Transportation and Utilities.
Our considerate approach to Clients has seen GF Tomlinsons undertake a significant amount of partnering and collaborative working with partners such as Derbyshire County Council, Derby City Council and Severn Trent Water. This type of working relationship accounts for over 65% of the company’s annual workload.
This considerate approach is not just reserved for Clients as we also adopt the same philosophy towards our own employees. GF Tomlinson are a people orientated organisation and directly employ in excess of four hundred employees. We have a policy of employing local people whether directly or through the use of local sub-contractors and suppliers. We see this ethos as providing social added value to our construction activities by recycling the ‘Derby’ pound.
At GF Tomlinsons we regard our staff as our greatest asset and always ‘Find work for our people and not people for our work’.
Training plays a big part in our organisation with each employee having their own individual training plan and facility being provided for CPD. Opportunities are also presented to all employees to gain recognised qualifications such as degrees, NVQs and other job related attainments.
We regularly recruit apprentices and technical trainees on an annual basis and have our own training school to support and facilitate the ongoing training we provide.
So looking to the future, our success is set to continue with the announcement that GF Tomlinsons are to relocate to new purpose built premises on land at the former Newton Engineering site on Alfreton Road, as part of the company’s ongoing expansion plans.
