Midlands construction contractor G F Tomlinson Building Ltd invited both pupils and council members along to celebration a new school building becoming watertight.
The new Candleby Lane School building in Cotgrave features several environmentally friendly technologies to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
The occasion was marked by a special Topping Out ceremony. The new build forms part of a new primary school which will serve 510 pupils and have the latest teaching and environmental facilities.
Pupils of the School were given a tour around the new school buildings, where they had the opportunity to ask Tomlinson staff questions about their new school. They also had the opportunity to interview Councillor Chris Baron for their internal school radio programme.
Councillor Joyce Bosnjak, of Nottinghamshire County Council said: “The new school, formed from the amalgamation of Highfield Primary and Nursery School, Cotgrave Manvers Infant and Manvers Junior schools, will provide young people with an excellent building with eco-friendly facilities like rainwater harvesting, wind turbines and other features to reduce carbon emissions.
The new site will also have improved play areas, playing fields and leisure facilities to encourage and develop the healthy schools initiative.”
