G F Tomlinson Building Limited have recently completed the building of a school gym. The Sports Hall and 6th Form Block at Brookfield Community School, Chesterfield has been built for Derbyshire County Council.

The eagerly awaited leisure facilities was officially opened by Madam Trudi Mulcaster, Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor Walter Burrows, Chair of Derbyshire County Council, with Headmaster of Brookfield School Russ Barr and Bryan Steel an Olympic Medallist on Friday 22nd September.

Russ Barr, Headmaster at Brookfield Community School said “We are delighted with our new facilities, which will help improve teaching and learning for all of our pupils and staff”.

The £1.8m Sports Hall comprises of 4 courts for indoor cricket, badminton and five aside football incorporated with underfloor heating, dry changing facilities and a reception room together with IT facilities for the use of electronic score boards.

Tomlinson’s worked in close partnership with the teachers and pupils, ensuring that disruption was kept to a minimum and work was carried out safely throughout the construction phase.

Stuart Lawrence, General Manager of G F Tomlinson Building Limited commented “It is very satisfying to be involved in the Strategic Partnering and see these much needed projects come to fruition and we are delighted to use our extensive expertise on leisure related projects”.

Tomlinson undertook the project as part of their 5 year Strategic Partnering Alliance with Derbyshire County Council.
