Derby based construction contractor G F Tomlinson Building Limited builds a world of natural discovery for families and visitors at Rosliston Forestry Centre.
Tomlinson recently carried out construction of a new build Visitor’s Centre at Rosliston Forestry Centre located on the edge of the Derbyshire village of Rosliston. The new Centre will provide families and other visitors with new leisure facilities including an exhibition hall, a reception and shop, 2 large activity rooms, a meeting room and additional toilets. This now compliments the surrounding countryside which consists of extensive woodlands, open meadows, a lake and a number of ponds.
The Centre offers a wide range of activities and events including environmental education, a variety of play, health and forestry activities, birds of prey displays, theme days, a restaurant and facilities for clubs and businesses. Four timber lodges are also available for overnight stays for groups and families and all buildings on site are now heated using sustainable wood fuel.
The project involved refurbishment and conversion of 3 existing buildings into a single building providing a range of functions. Natural features included the use of Larch panels and Douglas Fir timber to offer a balance of quality, cost and natural aesthetics.
Paul Watts, Project Manager at Rosliston Forestry Centre, commented “We are delighted with the new Visitor Centre and with Tomlinson’s professionalism. We plan to open the Visitor Centre in the second half of April to provide opportunities for people to learn about the environment whilst have fun and improving their health!”
Roy Collis, Managing Director of G F Tomlinson Building Limited said “We are delighted to be involved in this local project to bring the countryside and traditional crafts to the community at large. The whole project had a local theme with the professional team of Architects, Rothera Goodwin (Derby), Structural Engineers, PJ Steer (Derby) and Quantity Surveyors, Meller (Lockington) all being based close to the site. This was enhanced further by the fact that we had all worked together before on previous projects, which ensured there was an excellent team spirit throughout”.
