04/10/2006 - school construction project teaches pupils that health and safety matters
Pupils from Netherfield Primary School in Netherfield, Nottinghamshire learnt the importance of Health and Safety by designing posters in a competition organised by staff at G F Tomlinson Building Limited. The Midlands construction company are currently working at the school building new classrooms and hall and refurbishing the existing part of the school for Nottinghamshire County Council.
Graham McLoughlin, Tomlinson’s Health and Safety Advisor set year 4 to 6 students the challenge of making up posters incorporating different aspects of Health and Safety that Tomlinson construction staff working on site should abide by.
Over 100 students entered the competition, and after much deliberation, three winners were crowned Health and Safety champions.
As a reward for their efforts Project Manager Jeff Thompson and Graham McLoughlin presented the three winners with a £30 HMV voucher each.
Project Manager Jeff Thompson commented, “the children see us everyday, so it’s nice to get them involved, and what better way than with an important subject like Health and Safety. Their efforts were brilliant and choosing three winners was very difficult”.
