Midlands construction group Tomlinson has carried out improvements to the sewer network at Matlock Green, a rural village set in the picturesque valley of Matlock, Derbyshire. The civil engineering project was undertaken as part of Severn Trent Water’s long term improvement works under the AMP4 contract.

G F Tomlinson has formed long term partnerships with many local authorities and has worked on an extended collaborative partnership with Severn Trent Water for the past 15 years.

The Midlands contractor has successfully completed the installation of an underground storage facility providing an additional 254m3 of capacity and replaced over 570m of existing pipework in Matlock Green’s highway. This scheme will improve drainage, providing the community with additional storage from storm runoff in times of heavy rainfall and help to alleviate flooding to local homes and businesses.

Andrew Morley, Assistant Engineer with Severn Trent said “The existing sewers in Matlock Green were laid many years ago and simply could not cope with the demands imposed by severe rain storms and the changes in the way we live our lives today. The provision of storage at Matlock Green will provide additional protection to the sewer system for many years to come.”

Further to the flood alleviation scheme, G F Tomlinson is undertaking an extensive two-stage refurbishment scheme on Matlock’s rising main. The new pipe will provide a stronger and water tight replacement alleviating further flooding problems in Matlock which occurs during periods of heavy rainfall.

Chairman of G F Tomlinson Group, Barry Sewards commented “This is a big scheme and it will result in a much better drainage service for the Matlock community”.
