THE Duke of Devonshire laid the foundation stone at a Derby school's multi-million-pound development which G F Tomlinson Building Limited are undertaking.
The duke, left, is seen holding a stonemason's mallet, with Derby High School head teacher Colin Callaghan. The duke was following in the footsteps of his father, who laid the foundation stone at the school site in Hillsway, Littleover, 53 years ago.
He became the school's president and this duke was presented a photo of his father by head girl Harriet Williams.
Mr Callaghan said: "We were pleased to welcome the duke, given our strong connections with the Devonshire family."
The foundation stone was laid at the site of the school's new £3m sixth form and music centre, which will open later this year.
Chairman, Andy Sewards commented, 'we are delighted on the progress being made on site and are pleased to be associated with what is a high profile and prestigious project for the school. We will use our extensive experience working in the education sector to provide a facility that the school can be truly proud of.’
