
GF Tomlinson Birmingham Ltd staff have been highly commended for their seamless integration into the school environment at Thornton Junior School, which most recently led to them lending their support to the school in various projects during National Science week, which helped to show the children how science is relevant in everyday life.
"A successful partnership with G F Tomlinson Birmingham Ltd has facilitated hands on experience for Thornton Junior School children: Pupils have gained valuable experience of a building site and building materials." Said Ms Linda Webster Thornton Junior School Head teacher.
The week comprised of various presentations from the staff on topics such as conserving energy within the home, elements of building materials, incorporating a touch and feel session, on site walk rounds and measuring activities to find out the area and volume of a building.
“The time and effort committed by the Tomlinson staff has ensured that the children at the school gained a greater understanding that science is everywhere and not just a subject taught in school.” Said Marie Fogg Thornton Junior School Science Teacher.
The activity packed week drew to a close on Friday 13th March with a celebration assembly. Each Year Group presented the projects they had been working on all week to the rest of the school. Tomlinson who supported the event with prizes which they handed out to all of the winners.
G F Tomlinson Birmingham Ltd has been working on the £2m new build classroom block at Thornton School since November 2008, and have engaged with the school throughout the project in various ways including community news letters, health and safety presentations and providing safety jackets to support the schools “Walking Bus” initiative.
