Building sites can often seem a fun and playful place for inquisitive young minds who like nothing more than to go on adventures – however GF Tomlinson know that this is not the case and their safety officers went along to Thornton Junior School in Birmingham, where they are carrying out a £2.7m new build extension, to warn the children of the dangers of playing on and around a building site.
Doug Hunter and Paul McManus, resident Safety, Health and Environmental Advisors at GF Tomlinson Birmingham, hosted 2 separate talks to the 500 pupils who attend the school about the importance of health and safety and why children should never play on building sites. Activities that were carried out at the school included a Health and Safety Poster competition, a short video presentation and a question and answer session.
The children were keen to participate in the activities and they produced some fabulous pieces of artwork, with the winning entrants being presented with a gift from Ivor Goodsite.
Doug Hunter said: “The quality, attention to detail and the imagination of the children’s posters was astounding; they clearly showed they had taken on board the risks and dangers. All the children have been fantastic and have really taken an interest in what we are doing in the school.”
