Inspiring Students with a New Knowledge Hub

Construction work has begun on a multi-million pound spectacular new knowledge hub at Barnsley College providing a learning environment for individuals and local businesses in the region.

G F Tomlinson Building Limited has embarked on the construction of a centre for sustainable construction and renewable energies at Barnsley College offering practical demonstrations for individuals and businesses within the region to show how carbon and energy usage can be reduced in new and existing buildings.

With a clear focus on reducing its impact on the environment this spectacular new building will be designed to BREEAM ‘Excellent’, with part of the building constructed to a zero carbon standard with renewable energy technologies being used throughout.

The project has attracted £2.75 million investment from the European Regional Development Fund as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme. The rest of the build will be funded by the College, who have recently been graded an outstanding institution by Ofsted.

Stuart Lawrence, Managing Director of G F Tomlinson Building Limited comments “It is rewarding to be entrusted to construct facilities for students and local businesses and it gives us great satisfaction to be part of creating sustainable buildings for future generations”.
