G F Tomlinson Team up in the Community

Staff at G F Tomlinson and the University of Derby ditched their day jobs, put on their gardening gloves and volunteered their time on Monday 4th July at Beaufort Community Primary School in Derby to create an outdoor space for the school and provide an enhanced learning environment.

This initiative is part of a ‘Business in the Community’ pledge to improve communities through the help of volunteers from local businesses. Several local schools within the inner City of Derby have been identified as being in need of help, with Beaufort Primary School being one. Partnering with staff from G F Tomlinson Group Limited, the University of Derby and Total Hire and Sales Limited, BITC organised this community event which involved the creation of a pathway around the schools planting area, using tractor tyres and new plants to encourage small bugs and insects for the children to study.

Richard Massey, Account Manager of Business in the Community said: “I am always impressed with the impact businesses can make working together for a community win. This is the second project organised by G F Tomlinson combining people, supplies and equipment which has left a legacy”.

Both G F Tomlinson and Beaufort Community Primary School were very grateful to the tree surgeon Greg Long who cut and chipped the overgrown bushes and for the generous donations from Total Hire and Sales, the Derby Garden Centre and CT Tyres.

Phil Harrison, Deputy Head Teacher of Beaufort Community Primary School commented “ This has been an excellent project and the children will certainly benefit from having a great outdoor area. The staff from Tomlinson and the University of Derby worked so hard and the children at the school are very grateful.”

Mr Barry Sewards, Chairman of G F Tomlinson Group Limited said: “As a responsible business, it's brilliant that our staff were able to get involved and give back to our community. We were delighted to support this Business in the Community initiative again and help one of our local schools improve their facilities. This project will have a lasting impact and benefit to the pupils at Beaufort Community Primary School.”
