Broomfield Hall Learning and Support Building
G F Tomlinson were contracted to collaborate with Derby College, with whom we already have a long-established working relationship. We were required to build a new learning hub and sports hall at their Broomfield Hall Campus to provide much needed new teaching spaces, social and dining areas and a sports hall, gym, fitness suite and sports pitches that the wider community could use.
In-depth consultation was undertaken with the local community, Erewash Borough Council and within the college itself prior to the start of the project. During the construction phase, construction students from Derby College visited our site and were able to discuss all aspects of the project and gain an insight of a live site, such as the various trades used on the site and the sustainable initiatives that were implemented, such as photovoltaics ans sustainable drainage systems.
Contract Period: 28 weeks
Phase 1 comprised the construction of the Learning and Support Centre which includes a new library, resource centre, classrooms, technical laboratories for plant and animal analysis, a reception area and a food court with space for students to socialise.
This allowed space for the demolition of redundant buildings for Phase 2. This was geared towards the wider community and provided a sports hall, gym, fitness suite and pitches along with social and dining spaces.
