AgriSTEM Academy

Client: South Staffordshire College
Location: Rodbaston, Stafford
Value: £3.3 million

Approach

The G F Tomlinson were procured via a two-stage tender process to deliver South Staffordshire College’s AgriSTEM Academy.
The project involved 3 very distinct phases:
Phase 1: Demolition of an existing building and the construction of the new AgriTECH building.
Phase 2: Refurbishment and remodelling of existing teaching space and new build extensions to provide a multi-occupation building.
Phase 3: Full refurbishment and repurposing of a derelict farm building.

.

Approach

Construction

The project took place on a live agricultural campus and all works were carefully planned including:
Daily communication with the College.
Secure site segregation and bespoke Traffic Management Plan.
Safe decant of farm animals followed by a deep decontamination clean.
Protection of multiple species of nesting birds and bats.
We also worked closely with the College to deliver ambitious Employment and Skills targets over the course of the construction period. Our proactive approach exceeded the targets, with 13 apprentices and more than 150 work experience opportunities

Construction

Finished Build

AgriSTEM Academy transforms the scale and quality of training in the AME and AgriTECH sectors. It provides state-of-the-art facilities for students to learn the skills required to meet the demands of the modern agricultural and manufacturing industries, including a precision farming engineering lab, agricultural engineering workshops and Mechatronics Lab.
The finished buildings have been designed and constructed BREEAM Very Good.
“This fantastic building and investment will ensure that Rodbaston will have a place in the centre of agriculture education in the UK”
Rt Hon Sir Patrick McLoughlin
